The Artist.

David Embry's artistic interests cover a wide range of subjects and materials including oil and acrylic landscapes, still life and composition. His prolific book illustrations for Routledge and Kegan Paul gained excellent reviews. He now restricts this aspect of his work to occasional works of interest. He has a refined and elegant style of drawing which shows a mastery of materials including pen and ink. His sensitive watercolours are ideal for landscape, figure and portrait studies while his print-making is more design based and less representational.

His work has been widely exhibited at home and abroad. His one-man shows have been very successful. He has won a number of competitions including the Kent Artist of the Year for historic paintings and the Kent People and Places Competition. David has been commissioned to do many portraits of people, homes or landscapes, including a series of pictures to act as prizes for the Farmers' Union Annual Conservation Competitions. In addition to his own art work, he has made twenty instructional videos for 'Constable County Video Production' dealing with various aspects of drawing and painting. He runs three painting weeks each year at Dedham Hall near Colchester and gives occasional history lectures.

David is Chairman of Dover Unitarian Church and does some lay-preaching. He has been President of the Kent and East Sussex Unitarian Union.
